Mexico honors artist Arturo García Bustos on his 100th birth anniversary

On Thursday, 13 August 2026, the Mexican Secretariat of Culture and the National Institute of Fine Arts will host a public tribute to painter, engraver and muralist Arturo García Bustos at the Sala Manuel M. Ponce in the Palacio de Bellas Artes. The event includes a dialogue panel at 18:00 featuring art historian Dina Comisarenco, visual artist Inda Sáenz and art critic Luis Rius Caso, who will discuss Bustos’s legacy, his role in the Los Fridos group and his contributions to Mexican muralism and graphic art. Secretary of Culture Claudia Curiel de Icaza highlighted the importance of turning memory into shared knowledge for new generations.

The ceremony is free to the public and will bring together specialists, family members, friends and colleagues to reflect on Bustos’s influence on national and Latin American art.
