Mexico expands welfare scholarships and reports increased high school enrollment

President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that national high school enrollment in Mexico increased by 400,000 students in 2026 compared to 2025. This growth is attributed to the construction of new high schools closer to student homes and various educational support programs.

The government aims to expand its welfare scholarship system to reach 22 million students across all educational levels by the end of 2026. Currently, the program supports 19,593,156 students with an annual social investment exceeding 136,902 million pesos.

Disbursements for several scholarship programs, including Benito Juárez, Gertrudis Bocanegra, and Jóvenes Escribiendo el Futuro, began on October 19, 2026. Additionally, registration for the Prepa en Línea-SEP program is scheduled from October 19 to October 28.
