Mexico implements disability inclusion initiatives in State of Mexico and CDMX
In the State of Mexico, the government has allocated over 15 million pesos to distribute 1,966 hearing aids to residents across 86 municipalities. The initiative, led by Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez and implemented through the State of Mexico System for Integral Family Development (DIFEM), provides retroauricular hearing aids and bone conduction vibrators to promote social, educational, and labor inclusion for people with hearing disabilities.
In Mexico City, a legislative proposal has been introduced to ensure accessibility during Independence Day celebrations. Deputy Elizabeth Mateos Hernández presented a motion to the Mexico City Congress requesting that all 16 boroughs implement an ‘Inclusive Shout’ (Grito Incluyente). The proposal seeks to integrate physical accessibility, such as ramps and adapted restrooms, alongside communication support, including Mexican Sign Language interpreters, to allow people with physical, sensory, or communication disabilities to participate fully in public festivities.
