United States mandates Ebola declarations for international travelers
The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced new health requirements for international travelers arriving in the country. Starting November 3, 2026, all passengers on international flights must declare whether they have been in the Democratic Republic of the Congo within the 21 days prior to boarding.
This measure aims to prevent the introduction of the Ebola virus, specifically the Bundibugyo strain, following an outbreak in Africa that has caused thousands of deaths. Travelers can complete the declaration via paper or digital formats. Airlines are responsible for verifying these signed declarations before boarding and must retain copies for at least 42 days.
The regulation applies to all international passengers, including U.S. citizens and permanent residents, and covers transit through Congolese airports. The mandate is scheduled to remain in effect until December 18, 2026, unless modified or revoked based on ongoing public health assessments.
