Mexico implements labor certificate for avocado exporters

The Labor Certificate for Agro-export (CLA) has been implemented to expand social security access for workers within the avocado export chain. The initiative aims to ensure formal employment across orchards, cutting facilities, and packaging companies.

Through the Velagro platform, the scheme will gradually introduce new requirements for certificate renewals. The goal is to verify that all participants in the production and packaging process have employer registrations and that personnel are officially enrolled with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).

In the initial stage, 215 agro-export companies in Michoacán and Jalisco obtained the CLA, with 125 located in Michoacán. Alejandro Salafranca Vázquez of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare noted that these first certificates are valid until the first week of November, after which subsequent renewals will include stricter requirements to ensure labor formality throughout the entire supply chain.
