Mexico implements new educational assessment and support programs

Educational authorities in Mexico are implementing various assessment and support programs to strengthen student learning. In Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, the Secretaría de Educación y Deporte, in collaboration with Unicef Mexico and Servicios Educativos del Estado de Chihuahua (Seech), has distributed materials from the Independent Measurement of Learning (MIA) program to 93 primary schools in the North Zone.

These MIA tools are designed for students in third through sixth grade to bolster reading, writing, and mathematics skills. The program allows teachers to identify student progress and pinpoint specific areas requiring additional support to guide academic development.

In Hidalgo, the Secretaría de Educación Pública de Hidalgo (SEPH) is utilizing Integrative Learning Exercises (EIA) as part of teacher training and student evaluation aligned with the New Mexican School framework. During the 2025–2026 school cycle, this diagnostic was conducted across 3,220 schools involving 379,000 students.

Preliminary results from Hidalgo show that 85 percent of second-grade primary students are meeting expected learning levels. SEPH official Natividad Castrejón Valdez stated that these evaluations provide essential data for pedagogical planning and decision-making to adapt educational strategies to the needs of local school communities.
