Mexico implements new modifications to Federal Judiciary reform

New modifications to the reform of the Federal Judiciary in Mexico were published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on June 2, 2026. These amendments affect several articles of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States, specifically regarding the administration and administration of justice.

The reform, originally driven by the previous administration and published in September 2024, introduces several structural changes. Key elements include the popular vote election of judicial officials, including Ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), District Judges, and Circuit Magistrates.

Additionally, the reform establishes the creation of a Judicial Administration Body to replace the Federal Judicial Council, and the creation of a Judicial Discipline Tribunal. The 2024 reform also set timelines for the election of various judicial vacancies, including nine Supreme Court Ministers and members of the Electoral Tribunal.
