Mexico implements police social security reforms and expands surveillance

In San Luis Potosí, the LXIV Legislature of the State Congress has approved constitutional reforms and local law changes to guarantee social security for municipal police officers. These reforms, proposed by Governor Ricardo Gallardo, ensure that municipal security forces have effective access to retirement, pension, or jubilee benefits through public social security institutions. The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation recently validated these changes following a challenge by the San Luis Potosí city council.

Separately, in Tamaulipas, the State Public Security System (SESESP) reports that the installation of video surveillance cameras has exceeded 80% completion. The project aims to deploy between 6,000 and 7,000 devices across the state, including high-tech PTZ cameras with night vision and license plate readers. The network is linked in real-time to monitoring centers in strategic locations such as bus terminals in Matamoros and Tampico to assist in crime prevention and investigation.
