Yucatán delivers new sports infrastructure to 8,000 residents
The Government of the Maya Renaissance, in coordination with the Mexican federal government and local municipalities, has delivered four new sports facilities in the state of Yucatán. These infrastructure projects aim to promote community coexistence and prevent violence through sports and positive use of free time.
The new facilities were inaugurated in the municipalities of San Felipe, Acanceh, Chumayel, and Kanasín. Specifically, the project in Chumayel includes a new synthetic grass soccer field located at the Casa de la Cultura. The impact is distributed as follows: over 3,200 beneficiaries in Chumayel, more than 2,000 in San Felipe, 1,800 in Acanceh, and approximately 1,000 in the Girasoles subdivision of Kanasín, totaling over 8,000 direct beneficiaries.
These actions are part of the National Program for Intervention and Modernization of Sports Infrastructure for the 2026 Social World Cup, an initiative driven by President Claudia Sheinbaum. The strategy involves coordination between the Ministry of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu), the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (Conade), and the Yucatán state government.
