Mexico inflation rises to 3.62% amid higher energy costs

Mexico's annual inflation rate reached 3.62% during the first half of October, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). This figure is slightly lower than the 3.63% recorded during the same period in 2025.

The National Consumer Price Index (INPC) increased by 0.41% compared to the previous fortnight. A primary driver of this increase was the 18.51% rise in electricity prices, following the conclusion of summer season subsidies in 18 cities, including Tuxtla Gutiérrez and Mérida.

Other significant price increases included air transport costs, which rose by 14.77%, and green tomatoes, which saw a 22.07% increase. Conversely, agricultural products experienced a slight decrease of 0.11% compared to the previous period.

Core inflation, which excludes volatile items, rose 0.25% biweekly and stands at 3.78% annually. The rise in inflation has impacted the Mexican peso, which reached a one-year low against the U.S. dollar, as investors weigh the potential for the Bank of Mexico to maintain higher interest rates to combat persistent price pressures.
