Mexico inflation rises to 3.62% driven by electricity and service costs
Mexico's annual inflation rate accelerated to 3.62% during the first half of October 2026, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi). The increase was primarily driven by a 0.41% rise in prices compared to the previous period, with significant pressure coming from electricity, food, and various services.
Electricity costs surged by 18.51% following the conclusion of summer subsidies in 18 cities, including Monterrey, Mérida, Veracruz, Cancún, and Villahermosa. Other notable price increases included green tomato (22.07%), zucchini (16.27%), air transport (14.77%), and professional services (9.55%).
Core inflation, which excludes volatile components, reached an annual rate of 3.78%. While the annual figure remains slightly lower than the 3.63% recorded a year prior, the recent acceleration indicates ongoing cost-of-living pressures for Mexican households.
