Querétaro infrastructure: New rail and highway projects announced
President Claudia Sheinbaum announced major infrastructure developments for Querétaro, focusing on expanding railway and road connectivity. The Mexico City–Querétaro passenger train project is expected to be completed by the second half of 2027. This rail line will eventually provide connectivity to Guadalajara and Nuevo Laredo.
Other railway progress includes the Querétaro–Irapuato segment, which is currently 12% complete, and the Mexico–Nuevo Laredo corridor, which has begun the bidding process for the Querétaro–San Luis Potosí–Saltillo section. The Mexico City–Querétaro train is estimated to be 19% complete.
Road infrastructure is also seeing significant investment. A major project for the Huehuetoca–San Juan del Río alternate route involves 24.175 billion pesos, while the modernization of the Querétaro Northeast Bypass is slated for 800 million pesos. Additionally, a section of Federal Highway 57 is scheduled to reopen to traffic on October 15. To manage traffic during ongoing works on the Mexico–Querétaro highway, the National Guard is implementing the ‘Carrusel’ operation to mitigate congestion.
