Mexico infrastructure investment identified as key to economic growth
Business leaders and government authorities in Mexico are emphasizing infrastructure investment as a primary driver for economic growth. During the ‘Investment in Infrastructure as a Growth Detonator’ forum, organized by the Consejo Coordinador Empresarial (CCE), the Mexican Business Council, and AMAFORE, participants discussed the necessity of combining public investment with private capital and financial system capacity to modernize national infrastructure.
José Madian Mora, president of the CCE, noted that administrative simplification has already helped release approximately $3.5 billion in private investment, which began impacting economic activity in the second quarter of the year.
However, challenges remain regarding the investment climate. Data from Coparmex indicates that insecurity and the weakening of the rule of law are significant obstacles. According to Coparmex reports, only 23% of surveyed business owners believe it is a good time to invest, marking the largest annual drop in investment sentiment since 2020. Additionally, 50% of surveyed companies reported being victims of crime, leading many to redirect funds from expansion and payroll toward increased security spending.
