Mexico initiatives provide oncological wigs to cancer patients

Various initiatives in Mexico are providing oncological wigs to women undergoing treatment for breast and cervical cancer to support their emotional well-being and self-esteem.

In Zacapu, Michoacán, the State Institute for Job Training (Icatmi) has launched a workshop where 21 women are receiving free training to craft wigs. This collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Welfare, the Zacapu City Council, and the Municipal DIF utilizes donated hair to create pieces that will be distributed at no cost to patients.

Additionally, the Beltrones Foundation has distributed 16 oncological wigs and eight breast prostheses to women battling cancer. The foundation uses natural hair donated by volunteers, allowing recipients to style, dye, or straighten the wigs to maintain their preferred appearance. This program, which has operated for approximately 15 years, relies on a solidarity model where donors often meet the recipients during the distribution process.
