Mexico initiatives support women entrepreneurs in Sinaloa and Quintana Roo

Local government initiatives in Mexico are focusing on economic empowerment for women through entrepreneurship and specialized training.

In El Jitzámuri, Sinaloa, women from fishing communities participated in a training program to transform seafood into value-added products, such as shrimp and clam pâtés. This collaboration between the Ahome Secretariat of Economy, the Technological Institute of Los Mochis, and local residents aims to create year-round income streams beyond traditional fishing seasons. The program covers business management, food conservation, and hygiene standards, with the goal of establishing a social and solidarity economy node by December.

In Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, more than 40 female entrepreneurs participated in a community event designed to strengthen the local economy. Organized by the municipal government and the Institute for Women, the initiative included the ‘Hecho por ellas’ bazaar to facilitate the sale of local products. The program also provides integrated services, including free legal and psychological assistance, to support women's autonomy and community development.
