Mexican health officials intensify dengue control after rains
Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa of Quintana Roo announced a series of nebulization operations in Chetumal, targeting neighborhoods such as Nuevo Progreso, Proterritorio, Bicentenario, Caribe, Nueva Generación and Sian Ka’an. The insecticide dispersal aims to reduce adult Aedes aegypti mosquitoes that transmit dengue, Zika and chikungunya during the rainy season, and officials urged residents to eliminate standing water and cover containers.
In central Coahuila, Jurisdicción Sanitaria 04, led by Faustino Aguilar Arocha, stepped up fumigation and abatization in municipalities including Nadadores and Frontera, especially in areas near the Arroyo that separates Frontera from Monclova. The teams focus on treating water deposits, removing breeding sites and providing vaccination outreach, while stressing community participation to keep patios clean and discard unused containers.
Both regions emphasize that vector control measures must be complemented by citizen actions to prevent a rise in dengue cases.
