Mexico interstate bus services face criticism over service failures

Interstate bus services in Mexico are facing criticism for increasing fares without official regulation and providing services that fail to meet contractual obligations. While companies market luxury amenities, the primary issue remains the failure to adhere to scheduled times, maintain mechanical reliability, and ensure safe transit to destinations.

According to Profeco regulations, companies must respect the schedules and service types specified on tickets. Passengers are entitled to refunds or bonuses in cases of cancellation or delays exceeding two hours. A specific instance involving Enlaces Terrestres Nacionales (ETN-Turistar) was noted on September 11, when a bus scheduled to depart from Ciudad Victoria for Mexico City experienced a mechanical failure shortly after leaving the station, forcing the vehicle to return to its origin without providing alternative transportation to the passengers.
