Guanajuato FGR delegate removed after fuel seizure anomalies

The Mexican government has removed Juan Francisco Vera Ayala as the FGR delegate in Guanajuato following irregularities in a massive fuel seizure operation. The operation, which took place in San José de Iturbide, initially reported the seizure of approximately 59 million liters of gasoline and diesel as a major blow against fuel theft (huachicol).

However, federal officials, including Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch, admitted to procedural anomalies. Key issues include the fact that the operation was conducted by the state delegation rather than specialized central units, and the results were announced publicly nearly two weeks after the event occurred, without full verification of the fuel's legal status or the company's documentation.

Grupo Simsa, the operator of the storage terminal, has defended the legality of its operations, stating that the facility holds all necessary permits and that the fuel belongs to its clients. In response to these claims and the complexity of the case, the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in Matters of Organized Crime (FEMDO) has taken over the investigation to verify the traceability, ownership, and legal permits of the hydrocarbons.
