Mexico issues fraud warnings for FIFA 2026 visitors
The Mexican Secretariat of Security and Protection (SSPC) released a set of recommendations to protect national and international visitors from digital scams during the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will be hosted across Mexico City, Jalisco and Nuevo León. The agency warned that cyber‑criminals may impersonate hotel, transport or tour‑package websites, offer unusually steep discounts and pressure users into immediate payments. Advisories include verifying website URLs, avoiding excessive discounts, using reputable payment platforms, checking reviews on multiple sources, not sharing personal or banking data on unverified forms, using credit cards with anti‑fraud protection, confirming bookings directly with official contact numbers, reviewing cancellation policies, and reporting suspected fraud to authorities.
These measures aim to safeguard tourists and reinforce Mexico’s commitment to public safety during the high‑profile sporting event.
