Mexico issues nearly 1.4 million professional licenses

Mexico's Ministry of Public Education (SEP) reported that nearly 1.4 million professional licenses were issued between October 2024 and August 2026. According to Secretary Mario Delgado Carrillo, the data indicates a growing interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields to support the country's digital transformation.

Mechatronics saw significant growth, reaching 26,409 registrations, a 21.3% increase compared to the 2023-2024 period and nearly triple the figures from 2020-2021. Other notable technological growth areas include Computer Systems Engineering with 13,358 licenses and Multiplatform Software Development with 3,575.

While technology sectors are expanding, education-related professions remain high in volume. Combined, Education and Pedagogy accounted for over 84,000 licenses. Demographic data shows that six out of ten licenses were issued to individuals between the ages of 21 and 30, with 24 being the most frequent age for applicants.
