Mexico judge denies house arrest for suspect in dog death case
A federal judge in Coahuila, Mexico, has denied a request for house arrest or electronic monitoring for Liliana “N”, the individual accused in the death of a 14-year-old Great Pyrenees named Rocky.
The defense attempted to modify her preventive detention status based on a federal injunction. However, the judge maintained her imprisonment, citing an imminent flight risk. The court noted that the defendant had previously deleted evidence, concealed the vehicle involved in the incident, and evaded justice.
Legal representatives for the animal rights group Dignidad Animal stated they are seeking prison time rather than financial reparations to set a legal precedent regarding animal cruelty. Meanwhile, the Coahuila Prosecutor's Office has yet to formally return the remains of the dog.
