Gabriel “N” sentenced to 20 years for sexual abuse of daughter in Tamaulipas

A judge in Tamaulipas, Mexico, has sentenced Gabriel “N” to 20 years in prison for aggravated sexual abuse against his daughter, Dafne Zapata Quintos. The ruling was issued on October 16, 2026, at the Integral Justice Center in El Mante by Judge Eliseo Sánchez Wong.

The judicial process began in 2019 following a complaint by the victim's mother, Alejandra Quintos, when the child was six years old. While the initial charge was equivalent rape, the legal classification was later modified to aggravated sexual abuse.

The sentencing comes three months after the death of Dafne Zapata Quintos, who was 13 years old. She died in July 2026 while attending a summer camp at the Doenitz Militarized Navy Academy in Ciudad Madero. While investigations into her death are being conducted separately, the sexual abuse case has drawn significant public attention.

Defense attorneys have announced plans to appeal the verdict, arguing that the judge failed to properly evaluate the evidence and that the defendant's innocence should be upheld. The defense intends to seek an acquittal through higher courts and may file a formal complaint against the judge regarding alleged irregularities in the proceedings.
