Mexico kicks off World Cup 2026 with community festival in Oaxaca and star‑powered opening ceremony
Governor Salomón Jara Cruz and Irma Bolaños Quijano inaugurated the "Mundial Social 2026" in Oaxaca’s Parque Primavera, a family‑friendly program that will run through 19 July 2026. The initiative, backed by President Claudia Sheinbaum, offers live match broadcasts, giant futbolito, bubble soccer, zip‑line rides, video‑games and workshops to bring the World Cup experience to local communities.
At the Estadio Ciudad de México, Shakira will headline the official opening ceremony on 11 June, joined by Burna Boy, Tyla, J Balvin and other Latin and international artists. The live debut of the song “Dai Dai” will channel 100 % of its proceeds to the FIFA‑Global Citizen education fund, targeting a $100 million goal to support vulnerable children worldwide.
