Mexico launches $50 bn road program to boost competitiveness and nearshoring
Mexico announced a National Road Conservation Programme for 2026, allocating nearly 50 billion pesos to upgrade and construct around 18,000 kilometres of highways. The initiative aims to improve regional connectivity, reduce logistics costs and create about 100,000 jobs during construction and beyond.
Officials link the investment to Mexico’s nearshoring surge and its role in the US‑Mexico‑Canada trade bloc, arguing that modern infrastructure will attract private investment, strengthen supply chains and enhance the country’s competitiveness on the global stage.
