Mexico launches Copper Canyon 'Ruta Mágica' tourism corridor
Mexico’s Secretariat of Tourism presented the first regional integration exercise called the Ruta Mágica de las Barrancas del Cobre. The initiative links the Pueblos Mágicos of Parral, Guachochi, Batopilas and Creel with the Barrancas Park to strengthen road‑based tourism connectivity, promote the cultural and natural heritage of the Sierra Tarahumara, and validate new tourist routes. Participants identified attractions, assessed operational aspects, and highlighted infrastructure opportunities, with a plan to later add the Pueblo Mágico of Casas Grandes.
The presentation in Creel was led by Secretary of Tourism Edibray Gómez, Guachochi mayor José Miguel Yáñez, park director Edgar Piñón and route representatives César Sosa (Creel) and Martín Solís (Guachochi). The Copper Canyon region, noted for its deep canyons, cable‑car rides, horseback tours, fishing, camping and vibrant local cultures, is being promoted as a premier destination for domestic and international visitors.
