Mexico launches free cancer‑screening drives for men over 40 and 50

Mexico's health authorities are urging older men to undergo routine cancer screenings. The Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (ISSSTE) highlighted the rise of kidney cancer among men over 50, especially those with obesity, hypertension or smoking habits, and recommended annual prostate exams and renal ultrasounds to catch tumors early, when they are highly treatable.

In the state of Morelos, the Secretariat of Health called on men aged 40 and older to obtain a free prostate‑specific antigen (PSA) blood test and other basic health checks. Officials said cultural taboos and reluctance to seek care often delay diagnosis, and the free program also screens for diabetes, hypertension and obesity to improve overall male health.

Both initiatives stress early detection as the key to better outcomes and aim to change attitudes that prevent men from seeking preventive care.
