Mexico launches free summer programs for children in multiple cities
The municipality of Apizaco in Tlaxcala opened the free "Explora Kids 2026" summer course, targeting 600 children and adolescents aged 6‑15. The program runs in two stages—from 27 July to 14 August and from 10 August to 28 August—each day from 09:00 to 13:00, offering 19 sports disciplines and seven recreational activities. Participation is cost‑free, requiring only basic documentation and a medical record, and is supported by municipal instructors, coordinators and sponsors.
The State DIF (SEDIF) inaugurated its first summer course for residents of the CAS Carmelita Ballesteros centre. Running from 27 July to 31 August, the programme provides workshops, talks and recreational sessions aimed at strengthening socio‑emotional skills, healthy lifestyles and protective factors. Thirteen state and municipal agencies—including the Secretariats of Culture, Health, Youth and the Institute of Sports and Recreation—contribute specialised activities.
Separately, the non‑governmental organisation Matraca A.C. conducted a two‑week free summer course in Xalapa, Veracruz, for around 100 children aged 5‑17. The curriculum focuses on personal identity and environmental awareness, supplemented by recycling workshops for mothers and concluding with a pool outing for 40 children who attend all sessions.
