Mexico leads Latin American cosmetics exports with $3.15 billion in shipments

Mexico's cosmetics and personal care industry has reached significant scale, with exports exceeding $3.15 billion in 2025. According to Carlos Bersunza, executive president of the National Chamber of the Cosmetics Industry (Canipec), Mexico's exports surpassed the combined total of all other Latin American countries during that period. The nation ranks as the third-largest producer in the continent, following the United States and Brazil, and holds the 12th position globally among exporters.

The United States is the primary destination for these goods, accounting for over 60% of Mexican cosmetic exports. Key products include hair preparations such as shampoos and conditioners, razors, and makeup. Domestically, the sector recorded sales of approximately 325 billion pesos, with the average individual spending about 2,400 pesos annually on personal care.

The industry supports roughly 200,000 direct and indirect jobs and provides income opportunities for approximately 2 million people involved in direct sales. Market trends show significant growth in specific segments: skin care grew by 22%, fragrances by 18%, and hair care by 4.8%. Industry experts note that Millennials and Generation Z are driving these shifts, prioritizing wellness, prevention, and sustainability, often influenced by social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
