Mexico reports 16,000 missing persons located via National Search Strategy

Mexico’s Ministry of the Interior (Segob) has announced that the National Search Strategy has successfully located 16,003 people reported as missing. The localization efforts utilized several methods, including the Single Identity Platform, which accounted for 6,939 cases, coordination with state entities, the National Immediate Search Alert (ANBI), and field searches.

To strengthen these efforts, the government has formed a multidisciplinary group of nine national and international experts. This group, which includes specialists from institutions such as the University of Maryland, University of Washington, UNAM, and ITAM, will conduct a technical and scientific analysis of the national registry of missing or non-located persons. Their mandate includes reviewing and validating current methodologies, improving data quality, and proposing technical tools and legal or administrative reforms to ensure the registry serves as an effective tool for search and localization.

The formation of this expert group is being accompanied by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Mexico to ensure transparency and professionalization of the registry.
