Mexico mandates digital workday tracking for 2027

Mexican companies will be required to implement digital systems to record employee workdays starting January 1, 2027. This mandate, stemming from a reform to the Federal Labor Law (LFT) published in May 2026, requires employers to electronically register start and end times to verify hours worked and facilitate the supervision of overtime.

The Secretariat of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) will issue the specific regulations defining the scope and any potential exceptions to this obligation. The transition to digital records coincides with a scheduled reduction in the maximum weekly workweek, which is set to decrease from 48 hours in 2026 to 46 hours in 2027, with further reductions planned for subsequent years.
