Mexico mandates mobile line registration by June 30, 2026 or faces service cuts

All mobile phone users in Mexico must link their cellular lines to personal identification by 30 June 2026, as required by the 2026 mobile registration law. The measure, overseen by the Federal Telecommunications Regulator (CRT), aims to eliminate anonymity, improve security, and aid criminal investigations.

Registration is handled by each telecom operator, not through a single government database. Users can register online or at service centers using a valid ID and CURP. As of 19 April, about 30.2 million lines nationwide had been registered, and the trend is upward. Failure to complete the process may result in temporary restrictions, suspension, or permanent cancellation of the line, potentially affecting access to services such as WhatsApp, mobile banking and other apps.

The deadline applies across the country, with regional notices such as those in Yucatán warning residents of the consequences of non‑compliance.
