Mexico mango production suffers major losses in Nayarit

Mexico's mango season is concluding with production levels significantly lower than initial forecasts due to severe weather conditions in the states of Nayarit and Sinaloa. Yamil Gómez Cid, Director General of Mangos México, reported that Nayarit has experienced a production loss of approximately 80%.

While strong performance in southern regions like Chiapas and Oaxaca initially provided growth prospects, the decline in northern production necessitated a downward revision of total forecasts. In southern Sinaloa, fruit shortages have caused packinghouse operations to run at only 40% capacity, forcing producers to source fruit from other states such as Oaxaca to maintain supply.

Despite the reduction in volume, fruit quality has remained relatively stable. While the tighter supply has allowed growers to achieve slightly better prices, the increased costs and lower yields have prevented these gains from offsetting the overall loss in production. Climate volatility is now cited as a primary concern for the future of the sector.
