Mexico Megafarmacia project costs projected to rise to 17.6 billion pesos
The total cost of Mexico’s Megafarmacia project is projected to reach 17.635 billion pesos by 2026, according to data from the Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público (SHCP). This represents a 39% increase compared to the 2024 estimates, adding approximately 6.835 billion pesos to the budget.
The projected amount covers land investment, warehouse construction in Huehuetoca, State of Mexico, facility conditioning, and operation and maintenance costs over a projected 30-year lifespan.
Discrepancies have been noted regarding the initial costs. While former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador stated during the inauguration that the cost was 2.7 billion pesos, SHCP data reveals the actual initial investment to start operations was 3.948 billion pesos. Additionally, reports indicate infrastructure issues at the site, such as a sinkhole at the southern access point that was blocked with rubble by Birmex rather than being repaired.
