Mexico moves to strengthen teacher training and career system

Mexico's Secretary of Labor, Norberto Morales, chaired a meeting with faculty members responsible for new postgraduate programmes in Safety, Health and Environment at work. The programmes, scheduled for the 2026 fiscal year, are part of the State of Mexico's strategy to promote a culture of risk prevention and improve working conditions.

Separately, the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) met with Education Secretary Mario Delgado to press for a new teachers' career system to replace the current USICAMM framework. SNTE leaders urged the government to present the proposal in the upcoming legislative period, secure sustained investment in education, guarantee dignified salaries, and address pension reforms. Union head Alfonso Cepeda Salas said, "We want genuine recognition with a true career system for teachers, sustained investment, and a dignified salary." Both meetings underscore the federal and state governments' focus on professionalizing and improving conditions for Mexico’s teachers and workers.
