Mexico municipalities in Veracruz and Chihuahua report high missing person rates

An analysis by Red Lupa, based on data from the National Registry of Disappeared and Unlocated Persons, identifies several municipalities in Veracruz and Chihuahua as having some of the highest cumulative numbers of missing persons in Mexico.

In Veracruz, the municipality of Veracruz ranks 14th nationally with 1,057 registered cases. Xalapa follows at 49th place with 514 cases, and Córdoba is ranked 99th with 294 cases. Together, these three municipalities account for 1,875 missing person records.

In Chihuahua, four municipalities appear in the top 100 national list: Juárez, Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, and Nuevo Casas Grandes. Juárez holds the 18th position with 1,012 cases, while Cuauhtémoc is 40th with 659 cases. Chihuahua capital ranks 44th with 615 cases, and Nuevo Casas Grandes is 85th with 322 cases. These four locations represent 61 percent of all disappearance cases recorded in the state of Chihuahua.
