Mexico National Basketball Team to play qualifying matches in Zacatecas

The Mexican national basketball team is set to compete in Zacatecas as part of the FIBA qualifying window for the 2027 World Cup in Qatar. The team is scheduled to face Colombia on Thursday, August 27, and Brazil on Monday, August 31.

Matches will be held at the Marcelino González Gymnasium, where tickets for both games are reported to be sold out. Mexico currently holds a balanced record of three wins and three losses in the qualifying process. Head coach Omar Quintero Pereda noted that Colombia arrives with a strong roster, including players such as Jaime Echenique and Braian Angola.

Zacatecas Governor David Monreal expressed support for the team and the sport, highlighting the state's role as a consistent host for national matches. He also announced a new project for the Mineros home venue, which is expected to have a capacity of between 8,000 and 10,500 spectators.
