Mexico national soccer team appoints Rafael Marquez as head coach
Former Barcelona defender Rafael Marquez has been appointed head coach of the Mexico national soccer team, replacing Javier Aguirre after Mexico’s 3‑2 loss to England in the World Cup round of 16. The federation expects Marquez to address defensive shortcomings and guide the squad toward the 2030 World Cup.
Spanish tactician Juan Manuel Lillo will join Marquez’s technical staff. Lillo, who previously managed Dorados de Culiacán and has worked alongside Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, brings extensive international experience to support the rebuilding project.
