Mexico Navy Secretary emphasizes sovereignty and values

Admiral Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, head of Mexico's Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), emphasized the importance of values, honesty, and justice in protecting national sovereignty during a military parade led by President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Morales Ángeles stated that "there is no sovereignty without values and no nation without a people who exercise them," asserting that no technology or operational capacity is above the law. He noted that the institution has undergone a necessary transformation through a "new institutional architecture" to strengthen its mission of defending Mexico's territorial integrity and independence.

His remarks come one year after the Navy faced a scandal involving a fuel smuggling network linked to high-ranking officials. While he did not directly mention the specific corruption case, he reiterated the commitment to the rule of law and the evolution of the Navy's operational concepts to better serve the nation.
