Global automotive markets show varied growth in October 2026

Automotive markets across several regions reported significant activity in October 2026. In Mexico, light vehicle sales reached a ten-year high for the period of January to October, with 1.28 million units sold, representing a 4.8% increase compared to 2025. October specifically saw 137,438 units sold, the best October result since 2016. While Nissan and General Motors maintained strong volumes, Chinese brands like Geely saw rapid growth, whereas Toyota and Volkswagen experienced declines in the Mexican market.

In Argentina, electrified vehicles are gaining structural importance. Between January and September 2026, hybrid and electric vehicles accounted for 16.1% of all new vehicle registrations, a nearly fourfold increase from the same period in 2025. This growth occurred despite an overall 13.5% decline in total new vehicle sales. Hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) lead this segment, followed by plug-in hybrids (PHEV).

Other regional highlights include GAC Group reporting record exports of 223,000 vehicles from January to October, driven by high growth in Europe and South America. In Vietnam, Toyota Vietnam reported sales of 6,357 vehicles in October, with a notable increase in hybrid electric vehicle sales. Meanwhile, Ashok Leyland in India reported a 23% year-on-year increase in October vehicle sales, including exports, boosting its stock value.
