Mexico officials seek water alternatives after Monterrey VI project deemed unfeasible

In Mexico, the National Water Commission (Conagua) has declared the Monterrey VI Project unfeasible. The project intended to extract water from the Pánuco River basin in the Huasteca Potosina region to supply Linares, Nuevo León.

Nancy Jeanine García Martínez, president of the Water Commission of the San Luis Potosí State Congress, has called for technical dialogue between federal and local authorities. She emphasized the need to explore alternative water supply solutions that do not compromise ecological balance or the integrity of local aquifers. García Martínez noted that while Nuevo León faces critical water shortages, infrastructure planning must prioritize technical viability and human rights over political considerations.
