Mexico officials urge stricter motorcycle safety and helmet use

Authorities in Mexico are calling for increased road safety measures and stricter helmet enforcement following a rise in motorcycle-related accidents. In Soledad de Graciano Sánchez, Civil Protection Director Martín Bravo Galicia reported that the department handles between six and ten accidents daily, with five to seven involving motorcyclists.

Recent incidents include a fatal collision on Circuito Potosí where a young motorcyclist died and his pregnant wife was injured. Officials noted dangerous driving behaviors, such as riding on bridges, weaving through traffic, and carrying multiple passengers, including children, on a single vehicle.

In Tamaulipas, Deputy José Abdo Schekaibán Ongay is urging municipal governments to launch informative campaigns regarding traffic regulations before implementing sanctions. He advocates for mandatory helmet use and stricter control over motorcycle registration to improve road safety and accountability.
