Mexico opposition urged to confront Morena before 2027 elections

In Baja California, the political elite within Morena has largely been absorbed from the PRI, PAN and PRD, creating a situation where the same officials continue to operate under a new party banner. The upcoming 2027 internal election is expected to be effectively a single‑party contest, with former rivals now part of the same organization.

Separately, Bruno Díaz Lara, the head of the PRI in Tamaulipas, called on the PAN, Movimiento Ciudadano and other opposition forces to abandon a "lukewarm" stance and adopt a firmer position against Morena. He criticised opponents for focusing on superficial activities instead of challenging the ruling party, warned that voters will judge their resolve ahead of the 2027 elections, and noted a media campaign targeting PRI national president Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas.
