Mexico Pilgrimage to Guadalupe Concludes Safely with Health Safeguards

The 136th edition of the pilgrimages from Querétaro to the Basílica de Guadalupe ended without major incidents after more than 23,500 participants arrived in Polotitlán, State of Mexico. Health authorities reported 3,483 medical consultations, distribution of oral rehydration salts, colloidal silver, hand‑gel and other hygiene supplies, and 388 health‑promotion sessions that reached over 24,000 people. Sanitary inspections covered hundreds of food stalls and public restrooms, while civil‑protection officials urged continued preventive measures.

The State of Mexico also deployed a dedicated health operation, involving the Servicio de Urgencias del Estado de México (SUEM), the Comisión para la Protección contra Riesgos Sanitarios (COPRISEMEX) and epidemiology teams, to protect roughly 40,000 pilgrims – including about 16,000 women of the 64th female pilgrimage and 24,000 men of the 136th male trek. Coordinated meetings with local merchants helped enforce food‑handling standards, and medical teams remained on standby throughout the route. The pilgrimage is scheduled to finish on 26 July with the arrival at the Basílica de Guadalupe.
