Mexico plans electric truck corridor between Mexico City and Nuevo Laredo

The National Private Transport Association (ANTP) is coordinating a plan to build an electric‑truck charging corridor along the key freight route linking Mexico City with the border city of Nuevo Laredo. Companies including Grupo Bimbo, Femsa, Heineken, Marva Transportes and Oxxo have joined the effort, which aims to map existing charging points, select sites for new stations and secure investment to enable heavy‑duty electric trucks by 2030. The project seeks to streamline logistics for cross‑border trade with the United States while accelerating decarbonisation of freight transport. It draws inspiration from Brazil’s São Paulo–Rio de Janeiro electric‑truck corridor, which now supports over a thousand electric trucks daily.

The initiative remains in the planning phase, focusing on coordination among carriers, logistics users, energy infrastructure operators and technical partners such as Global Sustainability to avoid duplicated private projects and to lay the groundwork for a national electric‑heavy‑vehicle network.
