Mexican police seize thousands of weapons and drugs, detaining hundreds in first half of 2026

State and municipal police forces across Mexico reported extensive security operations during the first half of 2026. In Tijuana, municipal officers confiscated 50 firearms, including 41 handguns and nine long guns, and seized over 3,800 g of methamphetamine, marijuana, heroin, cocaine and fentanyl, while arresting 888 suspects for various crimes. In Michoacán, the Secretaría de Seguridad Pública reported the capture of 79 firearms, more than 7,000 cartridges, 221 kg of narcotics and 220 vehicles, alongside the detention of 288 individuals and numerous priority crime targets. The Querétaro state police conducted over 2,000 coordinated operations, detaining 1,550 people, seizing 65 firearms and recovering 612 stolen vehicles; cyber‑patrols also led to 23 arrests and the shutdown of 227 fraudulent websites. Tlaxcala’s Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana listed 738 dispositions, 378 vehicle recoveries and the seizure of 42 firearms, as well as the removal of more than 25,000 doses of drugs worth over 7.6 million pesos. Across these actions, authorities emphasized the weakening of criminal structures, the disruption of drug‑funding mechanisms, and the protection of public safety through intelligence‑driven interventions.
