Mexico political alliances shift ahead of gubernatorial elections

Political maneuvering is intensifying in Mexico ahead of upcoming gubernatorial elections. In Sonora, a potential four-party alliance involving the PAN, PRI, PRD, and Partido Sonorense is forming around Antonio Astiazarán to challenge the ruling Morena party. Analysts suggest that if Movimiento Ciudadano also enters the race with its own candidate, it could split the opposition vote and facilitate a Morena victory.

Simultaneously, tensions are rising within the Morena-led coalition. Reports indicate that allied parties, specifically the PT and Green Party, are being sidelined in several of the 16 governorships where they are technically allies. In states such as Colima, Campeche, and Querétaro, Morena has reportedly favored its own members for candidacies, leaving allied aspirants without significant roles despite previous agreements.
