Mexico 2027 elections: Projected campaign costs reach 10.8 billion pesos

As Mexico approaches the 2027 elections, political maneuvering and budgetary planning are intensifying. National parties and independent candidates are projected to cost approximately 10.8 billion pesos, with 2.36 billion pesos specifically allocated for the federal campaign. This includes funding for the eight national political institutes and new parties like Somos México and PAZ.

Internal dynamics within major parties are also emerging. In Veracruz, discussions are underway regarding the selection of federal candidates for the Morena, PT, and Green Party coalition, emphasizing the need for candidates with social support rather than just political connections. Meanwhile, in Puebla, internal competition is visible within Morena as local leaders vie for influence in upcoming municipal contests.

Efforts to manage these political shifts include debates over public financing. While President Claudia Sheinbaum previously sought to reduce public funding through electoral reform, proposals from allies like the PVEM and PT were rejected, leading to a projected increase in resources for political parties.
