Mexico prepares for 2026-2027 electoral process and inclusive dialogues

In preparation for the 2026-2027 electoral process, the State Electoral and Citizen Participation Council (CEEPAC) has announced a series of participatory dialogues. Scheduled from August 18 to September 4, these sessions aim to incorporate the needs and experiences of historically excluded groups, including persons with disabilities, the LGBTQ+ community, youth aged 18 to 29, and Afro-Mexican populations. The dialogues will be held in various regions, including Matehuala, Rioverde, Tamazunchale, Ciudad Valles, and San Luis Potosí, to help shape participation guidelines for the upcoming elections.

Separately, electoral law expert Edgar Iván Arroyo Villarreal has expressed optimism regarding citizen turnout for the upcoming intermediate elections. In Tamaulipas, where participation has historically remained above 50%, experts suggest turnout could reach up to 60% if political parties and authorities actively promote voting. The upcoming process will involve the renewal of nearly 20,000 positions nationwide, including 17 governorships and numerous municipal and local congress seats. The election will also feature the debut of two new political parties, Somos México and Paz.
