Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum Calls for Regulation of Social Media Use by Minors

President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo urged mothers, fathers and guardians to support a consensus proposal that would regulate the use of digital platforms and social media by children and adolescents. She highlighted health‑related risks of excessive screen time and cited a survey by De las Heras Demotecnia showing that 71 % of parents consider government regulation of cellphone use in schools necessary. She announced that the topic will be discussed on the Monday morning briefing (La Mañanera) and that further work will follow on artificial intelligence.

Education Secretary Mario Delgado Carrillo emphasized that protecting minors from the negative impacts of excessive digital platform use is a governmental responsibility and called for collective action to safeguard the development of the nation’s youth.
