Mexico delivers humanitarian aid and rescue teams to earthquake‑stricken Venezuela

The Mexican government responded to the June 24, 2026 double‑magnitude earthquakes in Venezuela by dispatching two navy logistics vessels, the ARM Isla Holbox and ARM Huasteco, from Veracruz. Over an eight‑day voyage the ships delivered more than 340 tons of aid—including non‑perishable food, bottled water, medical supplies, hygiene items and four water‑purification plants capable of producing 1,000 liters per hour each. About 100 members of the Navy’s Emergency Response Brigades and 18 trained canine units also deployed, conducting search‑and‑rescue operations that recovered 92 bodies and rescued two survivors.

President Claudia Sheinbaum ordered the mission, and the effort was coordinated with the Mexican Secretariat of the Navy, the Foreign Ministry and the Venezuelan authorities. The aid was handed to the Venezuelan officials after being distributed by Mexican specialists who installed the purification units.

Domestically, Mexican civil‑society groups and state DIF offices collected additional donations. The DIF of Michoacán kept a collection centre open, while the State DIF of Querétaro gathered 17.5 tons of food and supplies, which will be transferred to the Mexican army for shipment to Venezuela. Sheinbaum publicly recognised the “Yumare” volunteer group and the Mexican rescue brigade for their contributions.
